Tools for dyslexia and reading difficulties.

Chromebooks at Prescott College Southern have several tools to assist students with dyslexia and reading difficulties.


OpenDyslexic 


OpenDyslexic web overlay


To enable OpenDyslexic click the O icon in the top right corner of chrome browser as shown.

Under options select the toggle “Enable OpenDyslexic”





 

When activated OpenDyslexic will change the font displayed on most websites, this overlay may interfere with the spacing of the layout of the website.

OpenDyslexic may also be incompatible with some in-browser applications. 
OpenDyslexic does not work in google docs.

Easy read fonts (Lexend)


Google recommends a font called Lexend for users with reading difficulties.  This is available in google docs. Information on this font is available at

To add the Lexend font to google suite


Select the font drop-down menu

Select “More fonts”

Type in Lexend and select search.

Select the Lexend fonts and select ok

The selected fonts will now be available in the font drop-down menu 



ChromeVox (spoken feedback) and Select to Speak


ChromeVox is an accessibility tool which will read out all text and action in a browser. 


Select to speak will only read text that is selected.
